Why this site exists
nordicwhirlpocketv.boats is an independent educational website for small-boat owners and cautious first-time Nordic skippers. Its purpose is to make passage research more practical: identify exposure, confirm shelter, prepare the boat and leave room to change the plan.
Our focus is the ordinary decision that improves a day afloat. That might mean choosing a nearer harbour, taking instruction in an unfamiliar mooring technique or deciding not to cross an open reach. We favour realistic limits over adventurous promises.
How to read the guidance
Place names describe areas worth researching, not verified tracks or guarantees of suitability. We do not provide live berth availability, current harbour fees, surveyed depths or personalised weather routing. The route panels deliberately emphasise characteristics and questions rather than precise passage claims that could be mistaken for pilotage instructions.
Use the site to prepare questions for official sources, harbour operators and qualified instructors. Current charts, notices, marine forecasts and local restrictions take precedence over general editorial descriptions. A decision must always account for your actual boat and crew.
Sources and illustrations
Links to national hydrographic and meteorological organisations provide starting points for authoritative research. Those organisations do not endorse this website. Linked services may change, and readers should check that a product covers their intended area and remains current.
Soft-lit equipment renders and archipelago models communicate ideas without pretending to document a harbour. All schematic navigation imagery is illustrative and must not be used as a chart. The site makes no claim that a render depicts a measured vessel, certified installation or surveyed location.
Responsible boating is part of preparation
Respect for wildlife, local residents and other water users belongs in the passage plan. Research access restrictions, avoid unnecessary wash, secure waste and maintain the boat to prevent leaks and spills. Good seamanship includes the condition in which you leave the coast.
Corrections and questions
If you notice unclear wording, an outdated reference or a broken link, send a specific note with the page name and the issue. Please do not send sensitive personal information or emergency requests. We cannot provide real-time navigation advice or guarantee a response time.
